Age: 17 The Lowdown: After winning a Los Angeles modeling competition at ten, Bruckner joined the daytime soap The Bold and the Beautiful in 1997, and eventually moved on to movies, most notably The Glass House and Murder by Numbers. But it's her stirring performance in Blue Car that is building the Bruckner buss: She plays Meg, a high school poet whose relationship with her English teacher (David Stratharin) becomes uncomfortably complicated. Bruckner also recently wrapped the dramas Stateside, with Val Kilmer and Rachael Leigh Cook, and Wanted, with Anne Archer and Kip Pardue. The Endorsement: "It's amazing that she's so self-possessed at such a young age," says Blue Car writer-director Karen Moncrieff. "Toward the end of filming, I asked her where she saw herself down the road, and she said, sort of unhesitatingly, 'Winning an Academy Award," which I thought was so great. And I think she will. She doesn't want to be famous; she wants do to great work." The Trenchant Insight: "I've been turned down so many times in my career. Because I wasn't tall enough, or short enough-so many different reasons. It was hard for a little while, but eventually I adopted the attitude of, 'If you don't want to hire me, fine. Best of luck to you; I'm going to go do something else.'" The Gripe: "There are a lot of directors who like to talk around things, and it's really annoying. It I'm not doing something correctly, just come out and tell me. It saves a lot of time." The Little Known Factoid: The daughter of a Russian mother and a Hungarian father, Bruckner is fluent in both languages.
