Around Hollywood, most starlets can't seem to get through a scene without exposing a taut midriff. In Murder by Numbers, Agnes Bruckner's character exposes something more daring: a killer's softer side. Murder, which stars Sandra Bullock, is about two high-school boys who plot a murder. "The movie shows what outcasts think and why they do what they do--why the might even shoot people," says Bruckner, 17 who plays the object of one boy's affection. In real life, the actress has been home schooled since age 14--two years after winning her first role, on the soap The Bold and the Beautiful. At the Sundance Film Festival in January, Miramax snatched up Blue Car, in which Bruckner stars. Today, she says that learning which roles she likes is an education in itself: "I get a lot of dark scripts now. I don't want to be stuck only doing movies like America Pie. For someone my age, once you start doing them, it's hard to get out."
